Our story

Origins

The owners say that the house chose them. All the animals also came to them without any searching. Rihards and Māra, residents of Riga, had always dreamed of their own home, but Māra needed it to include cats, large dogs, and horses. On a late November evening, Rihards took his family to a rather forlorn country house and said this might be a good place to live. Māra didn’t say anything; she just began cleaning every nook, cranny, and corner with her family. They fetched water from the well and heated the house with the stove. They simply did what needed to be done, and soon they found themselves surrounded by cats, dogs, a herd of horses, and a century-old house with its own story.

Apparently, the house itself wanted to continue living and share its story. It was also revealed that the century-old log cabin has a connection to the Baldone manor.

Why horses?

Work with horses began for the sake of the children with a serious sport – show jumping. However, everything changed drastically when the first bay horse came to live at home and their own stable was established. Since 2013, the "Bērīts" stable has been the heart and soul of the Dakaru family.

Horses are one of Māra Dakare hobbies at the "Ezernieki" home, which has now become a serious pursuit.

Feel and understand

Observing and listening to horses reveals a different way of life and understanding of these animals. Horses are like people — each has its own personality and approach. Living in a herd and in a large space, they have the freedom to express themselves and interact. It’s fascinating to see how horses are attentive, tolerant, and respectful towards one another, yet they can also be combative or fearful. By watching and interacting with horses daily, one can learn their language: a language without words. If you learn to listen to a horse and perceive the nuances, you also learn to feel and react differently. It turns out that we can learn to be great, strong, fair, attentive, responsible, patient, and calm, regardless of age, weight, or height: we can shape ourselves into what we need and want to be.

To have a horse listen to you, you typically need to work with your own feelings and emotions. It’s a fantastic experience when horses accept and respect you. When a horse is happy to be with you simply because it feels comfortable around you, it’s a rewarding feeling. Discovering the language of animals reveals a vast and new world.

For those who want to understand what it means to be present in the here and now, a horse provides that experience. When you are with a horse, it is impossible to think about anything else, such as unfinished reports or homework. Communicating with a horse can help recharge your "batteries." A horse can show you how to act swiftly while maintaining calmness.
